On the importance of self-development

Often people have asked me whether it is about professional or personal development. And my answer is always the same, that they are inter-related. It is not possible to consider professional growth and fulfilment dissociated from increased self-awareness and self-knowledge. Likewise for all other spheres of life.

Are pessimists happier?

optimismI would like today to write about optimism and happiness. All my life, or great part of it, I have been an optimist, a person who always see the best in the worse situations, full of hope for the future and always believing the best can happen. In every situation, even the most seemingly tough or bad, I can spot something that is meaningful to me, something to learn. And I don’t mean this is easy, that suffering and pain are not part of it, but they are not the most important aspects, they are just a stepping-stone for the next level.

Did you say opportunity maker?!

we2I watched yesterday this interesting TED talk – Kare Anderson, Be an opportunity maker – and I said to myself that it would be a good kick-off for this new blogging season.

I don’t want to disclosed a lot about it and just to highlight what to me was a very important point: the need for diversity if we want creativity and growth to thrive. Looking for more ‘we’ situations, for cooperation and partnership instead of competition. To believe it is possible to create opportunities from within individual agency, and especially working in cooperation and looking towards a common vision.

Last Tuesday I went with some friends to watch a documentary about fracking in the United States and the effect it has in human life and natural ecosystems, namely in water. The documentary title is ‘Unearthed’ and the director is Jolynn Minnaar, a South African storyteller and activist for people’s rights.

On Love: The value of love

When we talk about the value of things we talk about the amount they worth (money wise), the degree of importance and usefulness they have, and their special characteristics. The value of things is attached to the context where they exist and are therefore evaluated. People and society create value, value is a construction and the value of things changes over time.
